Certified Personal Trainer, NASM
What skills and expertise do you bring to Sweet Mo clients?
I’m a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine with an emphasis on corrective exercise and women’s fitness. I received an associate’s degree in both psychology, and health and fitness. I believe in teaching folks functional movements, which means teaching exercises that mimic everyday movements, both in and outside of a gym setting. I want to give people the tools to be strong both emotionally and physically.
When did you know you wanted to be a trainer?
I took my first weightlifting class during my senior year of high school, and I have been hooked ever since. I became addicted to the way resistance training made me feel, and I wanted to share that experience with everyone else. I’m excited to share my knowledge about fitness with the rest of the world!
What do you think is most effective about semi private training/ personal training?
Small group training is effective because you can give personalized attention to each client within a group setting. You can teach multiple people at the same time while still paying attention to form, and giving the appropriate feedback and corrections without losing sight of the big picture, which is to lead a fun and productive class. Personal training is effective because you can give your undivided attention to an individual, with specific goals that take it a step further beyond small group training. Personal training is great for rehabilitation, sport specific and competition training.
What is an interesting or surprising tidbit about you?
I grew up in a small town in Colorado riding horses, herding and branding cattle, hunting and fishing, and listening to country music!
What does Sweet Momentum mean to you?
Sweet momentum means finding that groove that you can just run with, whether it be in a fitness environment or anywhere else. It takes commitment, dedication, and patience to be successful, and combining these things together will create an environment that can lead to a momentum that can’t be stopped!
Name a peak experience in your life.
In 2016 I participated in a Spartan race, and it was the most challenging thing I’ve ever done! I was scared and nervous and didn’t think I would finish. I finished strong and was so proud of what I’d accomplished. I often look back to that day when things are difficult, and I use that as encouragement to get through whatever I’m going through at the moment. It works quite well!
Why create a fitness community?
A fitness community is important because it creates a support system within a group of like-minded people. Being active can be a challenge for a lot of folks, and having people around you to hold you accountable and encourage you to do things you might otherwise think you can’t do is really important.
What is the environment that you strive to create here at Sweet Mo?
I want to create an environment that is safe, fun, non-judgmental, effective and awesome! I want every member to feel important and powerful, no matter what their fitness level may be. I want to be able to build relationships with members that last a lifetime!
